Abstract

The Gospel of John, like the New testament itself, contains no treatise on theodicy. Eschatology, however, is prominent in the Fourth Gospel, although it is treated in narrative rather than systematic fashion. Still less is the relationship between theodicy and eschatology spelled out. However, the Johannine text implies a good deal about the relationship between sin and evil, and it is these threads that this chapter attempts to draw out, along with the relationship to the uniquely Johannine eschatological vision.
