Abstract

From time to time particular texts and stories come into focus in the life of the church. This papare outlines some of the key biblical and historical paradigms which have framed thesde stories. Each is characterized by the past, and particularly the future eschatological horizons. This essay argues that the Jewish exilic experience, and the literature which came from it, are of particular currency for the church, when meshed with the eschatological outlook of Jesus.
