This paper comments on the philosophy of Marilyn McCord Adams and argues, like her, that reality is the basis of all reasonable thought, not language. Moreover, that Adams, John Paul II's Fides et Ratio, and Anselm and Aquinas before them, all agree that reality is intelligible - but not entirely intelligible, and that there is still much to be sceptical about.
