    Abstract

This seminar paper analyses the state of the Catholic Church in Indonesia and the role of its hierarchy through the socio-cultural models of "pre-modern", "modern" and "post-modern" before detailing a number of theological-anthropological comments on the contemporary church. More than one model is present in the contemporary church, although usually one is more prominent than the others. Indeed, the more dominant model not infrequently changes in a relatively short space of time. This analysis concentrates on symbols, myths and rituals.
