    A critical analysis of reflections of Father Ennio Mantovani upon the gap existing between the theory of evolution and the traditional Catholic understanding of original sin is presented. The perennially valid view of Paul has to be kept while reflecting upon the compatibility of evolution with an understanding of original sin.
