Abstract

In the expansive, light filled student lounge of the newly completed Newman Theological College in Edmonton, Alberta stands a very large table. On the table is an enormous uncompleted jigsaw puzzle. As students move through the lounge during the academic year, many stop for a while at the table and put a few pieces from the unassigned heap into the emerging completed image. The point of this story is to indicate what may be a purely Canadian phenomenon, namely, widespread experience - private and communal- of finishing jigsaw puzzles. I would like to suggest here use of such puzzles as a strong teaching and learning strategy in religious education, especially for younger students.
