Abstract

In this chapter, the author explores the way in which Jeremiah challenges the presumption that God will defend Jerusalem against invaders by seeing invasion from the north as retribution for idolatry. This historical and geographical exporation becomes a metaphor for Australians assessing their relationship to 'the north'.
