This article applies the ecological hermeneutics of suspicion, identification and retrieval in a reading of Luke 8:22-25. It proposes that Jesus' relationship with the disciples needs to be read in a wider context of relationship with the winds and waters. As an alternative to readings which focus on Jesus' mastery of the elements, I suggest that the text can be read in terms of a partnership between Jesus, winds and waters, into which the disciples are invited.
