This article begins by examining the initial gathering of the disciples and, in particular, the sequence of events from the start of the narrative to the end of the first Cana pericope, noting the indicators of time. These indicators, I suggest,
provide clues that these verses draw on the Jewish liturgical Festival of Weeks/Pentecost. The Gospel narrative will then be read in the light of the meaning and symbolism of this Festival of Weeks/Pentecost.
