Abstract

Based on experience and research in Papua New Guinea, the chapter explores some of the less familiar aspects of 'inculturation', showing that indigenous peoples can appropriate Christianity in surprising ways, re-identifying elements of their own cultures as Christianity - but not the Christianity propagated by missionaries and ecumenists.
