Abstract

Elsewhere I have published an overview of the challenge of Pentecostalism in Asia and responses by the Catholic Church (Prior 2007). Here I take up in more detail the case of Indonesia. More specifically, I examine the religious attraction of Pentecostal Churches and the Charismatic movement in Indonesian cities, mainly in Java, the most populous island in the archipelago. Pentecostals have become the religious movement of choice for young, upwardly mobile, urban professionals.
