Abstract

The article sets out the for-life position of the Catholic Church, a 'consistent ethic of life'. Life is a most important value, but is not confined to this world. A basic principle follows: one must take ordinary means to preserve one's life and health, but need not take extraordinary or disproportionate means (relative to persons and places). A useful and peace-giving guide for medical and end-of-life decisions.
