Abstract

This article traces the development of the economic views of Pope Francis, from his own experience of economic issues in Argentina and Latin America and in the recent global debates following the Global Financial Crisis. We try identify key thinkers influencing the Pope and his immediate advisers, notably Joseph Stiglitz and Jeffrey Sachs through the two scientific pontifical academies, as well as the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the wider Vatican diplomatic corps under the Secretariat of State. Also considered are key documents of Pope Francis, especially Laudato Si'.
