Our contemporary consumer context is pervasively even if implicitly “theological” because it is permeated with symbolic or spectral x valuations that are invested in numerous commodities. These spectral valuations represent aspirations of human desire. Such desire is radically reorientated within Christian faith, where x ceases to be spectral as invested arbitrarily or randomly; x is embodied christologically in grace and fidelity. Christian identity offers a truly non-spectral materiality as volitional embodiment of primary human values such as freedom, dignity and relationality.
