Abstract

The Kondi and Boer documents on the origin of the Rajadom of Sikka, edited with detailed commentary by E. Douglas Lewis, like all rich composite tales, can be read on many levels. While interpretation of mythic tales is all but limitless, certain linguistic, ethnological and ideological boundaries must be recognised. The following take is by a Catholic theologian conversant with biblical theology who has been living in in Sikka district for four decades, and so is also conversant with local mythology and their role in ritual and social life.
