Abstract

The thesis proposes that there is a need to recover the place of obedience in the western Catholic/Christian spiritual path, where obedience is an experience of love, learned in relationship and leading to becoming one's unique creation in Christ. The practice of contemplation and the recovery of a spiritual elder tradition such as is practised in eastern Orthodox Christianity are central to this.
