This response paper explores the overlay and interconnection of clothing as identity in the production and trade of the clothing and textile industry, religious life and practice, and the associations and guilds of the larger community in the Lycus Valley. For those living in the Lycus Valley, textile and clothing production and trade were both the fabric of life and industry and as such source of identity and survival. For the followers of Christ, the act of clothing defines them in Christ (Col 3:10, 12, 14). I will argue that the use of “clothing” is paramount to setting the identity of the believers in Christ, not just between “us” and “them” but in a new cosmic order. This clothing that is a layer of virtue and relational cohesion is not just about membership of the body but also existence in all the warps and wefts of life.
