This article makes a case that experience is a valid and necessary conversation partner with tradition and culture in the enterprise of theological reflection. It also asserts that, in order to access and describe experience, it is necessary to employ modes of knowing that engage aesthetic and affective sensibilities, as well as rational, cognitive faculties. In particular, creative art offers modes of expression that can greatly enrich the practice of supervision and enhance the process of interpreting experience. The author makes reference to his experience of using creative art in his doctoral research to illuminate the claim that it is a practical and useful method in supervision for ministry.
