Abstract

This book was occasioned by the eight-hundreth anniversary of the Franciscan Order in 2009. A commemorative conference was held in November 2009 at Yarra Theololgical Union, Melbourne, and this book is the result of that celebration. The theme of creative interaction between the spirit of Francis and Clare and the needs of the present is one that becomes evident in every period of Franciscan history, from the thirteenth century to the twenty-first. This chapter delineates the distinctive contribtuion of major Franciscan thinkers to scholastic theology in the period 1275-1320.
